Hororata Spring Fair 2015

Hororata Parish Spring Fair, which took place on Labour Day was a great success, raising approx. $11,000 for the parish.

Families came from all parts of Canterbury to enjoy a sunny day, catch up with neighbours, have some relaxed family fun, and to find a bargain or two.  It was wonderful to see so many families having fun in the entertainment area, riding ponies and racing alongside other children in our traditional races; egg and spoon, sack races and gumboot throw. This has definitely secured a place at next year’s fair and there is even a suggestion that there should be an adult category!

The country auction hosted by our resident stock agents draws locals just to hear the banter, and of course among the entertaining bids, everyone gets a bargain. The large “White Elephant” pretty much sold out quickly, so you had to be in early to snap up a treasure there.

The 'Creative Kids' competition showcased the creativity and effort that the community children put into their entries. The entry categories were Flower Power, Lego, Cup Cake Decorating and a colouring competition.  Well done to all entrants and winners.

The domain continues to be a wonderful location, ease of access, parking and ideal for children running around.  Our stall holders returned this year to provide entertainment and to showcase their local produce.

The fair would not be possible without a large amount of local business support and a huge crew of volunteers we owe them a big thank you.

This money raised will be used to ensure we continue to provide regular Sunday services, pastoral care to people within our parish, maintain our buildings, provide community activities such as preschool music and continue to fight for the rebuild of our beloved stone church.
